After finding of a mass grave of dogs in a village in Nicosia province, the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens' Cooperation, has been informed.
According to a statement, "the living were not only killed, but tortured and abused before their tragic end.
It is for these incidents that we have been calling for years and calling on those responsible to finally create the "Animal Police". But instead of creating a pro-animal body with police powers - dealing exclusively with these phenomena of barbaric treatment of animals - the Government was content with half-measures, renaming a number of police officers who had already taken on allegations of animal cruelty as an additional task.
For our part, we condemn these acts in the strongest possible terms. It is time for exemplary out-of-court proceedings to be applied to offenders and their prosecution to be immediate. We call on the Police to immediately investigate the new incident of animal abuse and killing and bring the offender or perpetrators to justice as soon as possible."
