Filenews 13 April 2021
An immediate halt to Johnson & Johnson's monodosic vaccine is being requested by US federal health agencies, following six cases of thrombosis that occurred about two weeks after vaccination.
All six incidents involve women aged 18 to 48. According to officials, one of them died and a second had to be hospitalized in critical condition.
About 7 million US. citizens have received this vaccine so far, while 9 million doses have been delivered to the states, according to data from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The movement of health authorities is described as a recommendation for health professionals. However, the federal government is expected to stop administering the vaccine. A similar recommendation is expected from state health officials.
In the coming period, scientists from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the CDC are expected to jointly consider the possibility of linking the vaccine and thrombosis in order to decide whether the use of the vaccine will continue to be allowed for all adults or there will be restrictions. An emergency meeting of the CDC's external advisory committee is already scheduled tomorrow.
