FOR THE 5th YEAR IN A ROW, THE CYPRUS PLAN TO NEUTER STRAY CATS

 Filenews 5 April 2021

On the basis of the Integrated Framework for the Protection and Welfare of Animals implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment, the Veterinary Services announce the start of the implementation of the Cyprus Stray Cat Neutering Plan 2021, with a total expenditure of 75,000 euros, which is being implemented for the fifth consecutive year.

The implementation of the Plan will be undertaken by the Provincial Veterinary Offices in cooperation with the Local Authorities and registered Animal Organizations, following expressions of interest from these bodies.

Every Municipal and Community Council and every registered Philozoic Organization interested in participating in the Project, is invited to submit the relevant form by 30/4/2021 to the Veterinary Office of their Province. Individuals and non-registered groups that act as volunteers looking after many animals, can participate only through Local Authorities or registered Animal Organizations. The list of Local Authorities and Animal Welfare Organizations participating in the Project will be posted on the Veterinary Services website.

The Veterinary Services also invite all registered veterinarians in the private sector to register their interest in participating in the Cyprus Stray Cat Neutering Plan. Only registered veterinarians with properly equipped veterinary clinics will participate in the Project in terms of surgery and post-operative hospitalisation of cats. The aim is for neutering to be evenly distributed to all veterinary clinics, regardless of the number of veterinarians working in them. Registered veterinarians who do not have clinics must indicate the clinic where they will perform the infertility and submit with their interest the relevant agreement of use/cooperation with the clinic concerned.

In this context, all veterinarians concerned are invited to declare their intention to participate in the Plan by 30/4/2021, submitting signed originals of all required documents to the Veterinary Office of the Province where they operate.

All relevant documents can be retrieved from the Veterinary Services website.
