EMERGENCY MEETING AT THE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE - BRAKE ON RELAXATIONS

 Filenews 18 April 2021

"The situation as it has evolved does not allow us to proceed with further easing in the next period, as was the government's intention," Government Spokesman Kyriakos I. Kousios said today.

In statements to the media at the Presidential Palace, Mr. Kousios said that "the President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Anastasiades, today convened an emergency meeting at the Presidential Palace to assess the epidemiological picture as it has been in recent times.

The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Health, Finance and Labour as well as the Government Representative.

As stated in the Communication: "The prevalence of strain in the United Kingdom and in our country affects all ages and is linked to the serious deterioration of epidemiological indicators in the community and in hospitals, dangerously burdening the structures of the health system. The situation, as it has evolved, unfortunately, does not allow us to proceed with further easing in the next period, as was the government's intention, until we have the expected benefits of our vaccination programme."

We call on everyone to cooperate in this joint effort, choosing to vaccinate them, while observing protective and personal hygiene measures.

That is the only way we will get out of this unpleasant situation as soon as possible.

The pandemic affects us all.

Together we can do it."
