CYPRUS IN THE 'ORANGE CATEGORY' OF THE BRITISH

 Filenews 1 April 2021

In the "orange" category of the UK Government, which is geared towards the development of a system of "traffic lights" with countries in three (or four) categories, depending on the progress of their vaccination programme, Cyprus will most likely be found on 17 May, according to the travel advisory firm PC Agency.

This implies that those Who visit Cyprus, as well as Greece, Spain and Turkey, should have with them a negative molecular diagnostic test, which will be within 72 hours before departure, another quick test with arrival and a quarantine period of at least three days.

Just 12 countries could be included on the "green" list of international tourist destinations, Malta, Gibraltar, Portugal and Israel, which are expected to have vaccinated more than half their population by May 17, as well as countries such as the US, Canada, Barbados, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Grenada and the United Arab Emirates , which will most likely meet the criteria for inclusion in the green category, which in addition to the progress of vaccinations are expected to include the small dispersion of dangerous mutations and the operation of an in-progress diagnostic test programme.

To return from "green" countries the British will only be required to take a quick diagnostic test, without quarantine.

Those returning to Britain from countries in the "red" category will continue to be required to have a minimum 10-day quarantine in government-listed hotels, at their own financial cost for accommodation.

Next Monday Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to make announcements on how this system will work by categorising countries, but not announcing specific countries by category.

A week later, on 12 April, announcements are expected from the Working Group on International Travel under Transport Minister Grant Shapps on how and when holidays abroad will be allowed.
