AFTER LATCHI, THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES TAKE A TURN FOR PROMINENCE

 Filenews 4 April 2021

The Municipality of Chrysochous Town is now directly promoting the landscaping of the archaeological sites of the Municipality and already in recent times contacts with the competent Department of Antiquities are at a very advanced stage, essentially recommending the beginning for the start of the great project.

This is a development of major importance given the rich archaeological past of the region, in which the Kingdoms of Marion and Arsinoe were known.

The Mayor of the City, Giotis Papachristofis, told "F" that for 40 years, the archaeological sites of the city are abandoned and now it is time for their landscaping and upgrading, with the aim of making them accessible to the public.

"The city of Chrysochous has several archaeological sites, four points which are consolidated, and a large part despite the Hospital, which has been expropriated. It is worth noting that in our region, 40 years ago, he was carrying out excavations at Bristol University in America," he said.

According to Mr. Papachristofis, the Department of Antiquities has now overseen this excavation project.

"Our goal," he concluded, "is to upgrade the site, at a cost of €1.2 million. The project has been entrusted to scholars for planning with a view to starting work immediately."

The projects of upgrading and promotion of the antiquities of the city, follow the corresponding procedures already promoted for the area of Latchi, which is estimated to reveal next summer a new, more attractive face of the entire municipal area.
