622 NEW CASES AND TWO DEATHS, THURSDAY

Two of our fellow citizens have lost their lives to the coronavirus, while the new cases amount to 622, according to the information of the Ministry of Health. Dead is a woman aged 91, with underlying diseases and a history of vaccination, and a 44-year-old woman with an underlying disease with no history of vaccination.

Detail:

- Two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 268.

- 207 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 52 of whom are in serious condition.

- A total of 47,547 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

- 622 (positivity rate: 1.31%) new cases of COVID-19 have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 49,988.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

- Woman, aged 91 years, with underlying diseases, with a history of vaccination (two doses), who ended up in Paphos General Hospital.

- Woman, aged 44, with an underlying disease, without a history of vaccination, who ended up in Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 268, of which:

- 176 men (66%), and

- 92 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 207 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE OKYP hospitals, 52 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 52 patients critical, 31 are intubated and 21 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 47,547 diagnoses currently carried out, 3,752 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 43,795 using the antigen rapid test, 622 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 126 cases from 731 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 2 cases from 847 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 114 cases from 1,614 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 15 cases from 431 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case of 129 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through public health clinics.
  • 30 cases from 760 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 334 cases from 43,035 samples examined using the antigen rapid test.
