446 NEW CASES AND FOUR DEATHS, SATURDAY

4 deaths and 446 positive cases of coronavirus announced today Saturday, April 10th by the Ministry of Health.

According to the announcement:

  • Four people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 272.
  • 204 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 52 of whom are in serious condition.
  • A total of 49,314 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 446 (positivity rate: 0.90%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 51,035.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The four people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Male, aged 87, with underlying diseases, with a history of vaccination (two doses), who ended up in Larnaca General Hospital.
  • Male, aged 59, with underlying diseases, no history of vaccination, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • Woman, aged 77, with underlying diseases, no history of vaccination, who ended up in Famagusta General Hospital.
  • Male, aged 73, with underlying diseases, no history of vaccination, who ended up in Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 272, of which:

  • 179 men (66%), and
  • 93 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 204 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE HOSPITALS, 52 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 52 patients critical, 30 are intubated, two are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 20 are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 49,314 diagnoses currently carried out, 4,401 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 44,913 using the antigen rapid test, 446 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 93 cases from 976 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 3 cases from 1,273 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 54 cases from 1,707 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 11 cases from 256 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 11 cases from 554 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 274 cases out of 44,359 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 189 samples taken as part of the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
