434 NEW CASES, WEDNESDAY

434 new cases of coronavirus and no deaths announced today by the Ministry of Health, while 176 patients are being treated in a COVID ward.

In detail, the Ministry in a statement states that today, 31 March 2021:

  • No deaths of patients with a final cause of death on COVID-19 were recorded today, so the total number of deaths remains 256.
  • 176 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 43 of whom are in serious condition.
  • A total of 51,301 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 434 (positivity rate: 0.85%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 45,864.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded today. Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 remains 256, of which:

  • 169 men (66%), and
  • 87 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 176 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE OKYP hospitals, 43 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 43 patients critical, 22 are intubated, four are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 17 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 51,301 laboratory diagnoses currently carried out, 3,235 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 48,066 using the antigen rapid test, 434 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 99 cases from 609 samples taken through the process of tracing close contacts (primary contacts) of cases.
  • 2 cases from 231 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 84 cases from 1,836 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 14 cases from 378 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case of 181 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 5 cases from 653 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 229 cases from 47,413 samples tested using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
