Cyprus breaks the 200,000 mark
of vaccinations today. Up to 14 April, a total of 198.060 vaccinations were
administered, out of which 141.000 concerned the 1st dose and 57.060
concerned both doses. Increasing vaccination coverage
is a step towards the return to normality, as soon as possible. The
vaccination programme is implemented, with priority given tomorrow to
citizens aged 53 and 54. Specifically, 15.000
appointments for vaccination will be made available through the Vaccination
Portal from tomorrow, April 16th, at 7:30 am, until Saturday, April 17, at 8
pm, only for people aged 53-54. Vaccinations will be carried
out at all Vaccination Centres island-wide with the available vaccines of
AstraZeneca and Pfizer. The aim of the Ministry of
Health is for the vaccination coverage of the population to proceed at an
even faster pace, so that individuals aged 45 and over can receive at least
the 1st dose of the vaccine by the beginning of May and by the 1st semester
of the year to have vaccinated at least 60 % of the population (at least with
the 1st dose). The data from the vaccination
of 83% of people aged 80 and over and 79% of those in the 70-79 age group
show that vaccination dramatically reduces the number of positive cases and
admissions to hospitals. In order to achieve citizens’ health protection, it
is recommended that individuals with priority proceed, as quickly as possible
to schedule their vaccination, thus reducing the risk of serious illness
and/or death. Vaccination is the only way we
can get our lives back and return to normality as soon as possible. (MPO/EK) |
