 Filenews 15 March 2021

Of particular concern is what happened yesterday in Limassol, the Minister of Justice and Public Order Emily Yolitis said in a written statement, noting that the Police yesterday made a total of 286 complaints from citizens and 2 premises and investigations and evaluations are continuing through video footage.

"What happened yesterday is extremely worrying. Unfortunately, a portion of our fellow citizens do not understand what we are facing and how marginal the situation is, nor does it show due respect for the sacrifices of our fellow citizens," says Mrs. Yolitis, noting that "while the majority of our fellow citizens respect the measures with reverence, they expect their turn on the vaccine, they expect a return to normality, it is a pity that a minority is endangering public health".

It further states that the guidelines are to avoid violent clashes and incidents and this yesterday defined the actions of the Police. "Yesterday, in Limassol, an additional 20 police cars were sent and a total of 43 police cars were patrolling Limassol," she adds, adding that "the Police yesterday made a total of 286 complaints from citizens and 2 premises and investigations and evaluations are continuing through video footage".

The Minister of Justice also stresses that "the Police are called upon to guard the sacrifices of the many, but we also need the cooperation of civil society" and that "the aim should under no circumstances be for the Police to go after the citizens or the citizens to try to devise ways to fool the Police".

Finally, Mrs Yolitis points out that "the reality, unfortunately, is that the virus is not fooled by any of us. And he won't choose a police officer or a civilian either. We are all candidates and we should understand that."
