Written statement by the Minister of Health Mr. Konstantinos Ioannou 23/3/21
Today I informed the Council of Ministers about the epidemiological picture that is being formed lately, on the basis of which information I received from the Scientific Advisory Committee. According to the updated data evaluated, the increased numbers of infections, admitted to hospitals and hospitalized in the Intensive Care Units, reflect the aggravated epidemiological picture that prevails in Cyprus, as well as in the rest of Europe, with most countries in increased restrictions regime.
The widespread spread of the virus in Cyprus is confirmed by the large number of cases recorded daily, despite their immediate detection and isolation, through the tracking process.
Despite the signs of stabilization observed in some cases, it is considered that a clearer picture of the epidemiological situation will be captured in the coming days, when there will be an assessment of recent easing of restrictive measures. On the basis of these data, the position was reaffirmed that the strategy of de-escalation of restrictions will be implemented with the aim of avoiding setbacks in all areas.
