From Cyprus Police
The following is a series of simple measures to protect citizens' property:
- We make sure that our house is well locked, having secured doors and windows and we do not leave the keys on the locks, not even on the inside of the door
- We do not leave exposed or in unsafe places, money, jewellery, important documents or other valuables
- We do not leave our car keys exposed in prominent places or places that any third party can access in our home, workplace or any other place we visit
- When we're away from home, we don't leave any clues that betray our absence.
- If there is an alarm system or a closed monitoring circuit installed in our house, we make sure that we have put it into operation, and we regularly check that it has not suffered any damage that renders it out of service.
- It is recommended to install an anti-theft alarm system in our car
- Finally, in the case of electronic and other devices or valuables bearing a serial number, we record their serial number so that they can be identified and identified in the event of their theft.
More generally, the public is encouraged to be vigilant and to cooperate closely with the Police and if they identify anything suspicious, such as persons or vehicles that are moving suspiciously, to immediately inform the local Police Station or to contact the Citizen's Line at the telephone number 1460, as this may help to identify suspected persons, to detect incidents of burglaries and thefts and to prevent such incidents in the future.
