The Ministry of Health, taking
into account the recommendations of the European Centre for Disease
Prevention and Control (ECDC), for the minimum specifications that the
SARS-CoV-2 rapid antigen tests must meet, has compiled a list of laboratories
conducting tests in line with these specifications.
In addition, the Ministry of
Health informs citizens that rapid
antigen detection tests using saliva are currently being evaluated
at European Union level by the member states, as there are still insufficient data
from independent clinical studies and their diagnostic value has not been
proven. Therefore, while the completion of the procedure and
the issuance of guidelines by the ECDC are pending, the Ministry of Health cannot
accept the result of the above tests at this stage.

It is recalled that people with
a positive laboratory
test result of a rapid antigen detection that has not been
carried out by the mobile units of the Ministry of Health or a Private
Clinical Laboratory included in the above list, should inform their Personal Doctor,
in order to proceed with a referral for a molecular examination through the
Public Health Clinics.
In any case, it is stressed
that citizens with a positive antigen test result should self-isolate immediately
and should follow the self-isolation instructions for confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Further instructions will be given by the Epidemiological Supervisory Unit
after receiving notification of the positive result by the clinical
laboratory.
In cases of people who have a
negative SARS-CoV-2 antigen test result but show symptoms of possible
coronavirus infection, it is recommended that they contact their Personal
Doctor to evaluate their case and arrange further investigation through the
RT-PCR method.
In cases of people without symptoms
and a negative SARS-CoV-2 antigen test result, it is stressed that they are not exempt from the risk of
developing COVID-19 infection and should continue the strict application of
individual protection measures and protocols.
It should be noted that
according to the Quarantine Law Decree N.2, dated 8 January 2021, the maximum
price for a rapid antigen test for COVID-19 detection is set at €20.
