A total of nine cases of drug driving under investigation have emerged following checks carried out by the police over the past thirteen days. During traffic checks between 6 March and 19 March, nine drivers of vehicles, aged between 24 and 46, were positive for a preliminary narco test.
According to a statement from the Police, one of the drivers, aged 35 in Limassol, was found driving without a safety certificate, without a registration and without a registration plate in the back of the vehicle. In another case, a 42-year-old man in Larnaca was spotted driving at a speed of 76 kilometres per hour instead of 50, while in a 37-year-old's vehicle in Limassol, burglary tools were detected.
Substances such as drugs and alcohol have been shown to contribute to reducing the mental and psychological effort made while driving and reducing the performance and skills of the driver, thus increasing the risk of a traffic collision.
The Cyprus Police places particular emphasis on this phenomenon and with daily checks and campaigns, as well as constant information to the public, focuses its efforts on tackling the problem, with the aim of preventing serious and fatal traffic collisions.
