MEXICAN RESEARCHERS DESIGNED MINI NOSE MASKS FOR USE IN RESTAURANTS

 Filenews 26 March 2021

A new protection mask from Covid-19 covering only the nose was developed by researchers in Mexico to allow its users to freely have lunch.

These unusual masks, worn under normal and designed by researchers at Mexico's National Polytechnic University (IPN), were shown, according to Reuters, in a video showing a man and woman enjoying their meal.

On social media some users welcomed the idea, noting that "mini nose masks" would reduce the dispersion of the coronavirus, but others joked about their unusual appearance. "Well, not a new invention. Clowns have been wearing them for years," one of them wrote on Twitter.

Another, again, noted: "I know it's ridiculous, but to be fair the nose contains the highest concentration of receptors to which the coronavirus adheres, so it's better than not wearing any mask when you eat." According to Johns Hopkins University, the human body's smell cells are a key source of entry for the coronavirus, making it important to cover the nose. But the World Health Organization recommends masks that cover not only the nose, but also the mouth and chin to better protect against coronavirus.
