FAKE VACCINES FOR COVID-19 SEIZED IN CHINA AND SOUTH AFRICA

 Filenews 4 March 2021

What Interpol describes as the "tip of the iceberg", is the seizures of police, in China and South Africa, of fake vaccines against the crown.

It all started when, as Interpol announced, 400 vials - equivalent to about 2,400 doses - containing the fake vaccine were found in a warehouse in Germiston outside Johannesburg, South Africa. There the police officers also spotted fake masks, while three Chinese as well as Zambian nationals were arrested.

However, on the other side of the globe, in China the police tracked there with a network selling fake Covid-19 vaccines. Following a raid by Chinese police with the assistance of Interpol, as reported by the British newspaper Guardian, more than 3,000 preparations were found at the production facilities for these fake vaccines.

But the case of fake vaccines didn't end there. Interpol has issued an orange alert around the world for organized networks that operate online aiming to produce and distribute fake vaccines. "While we welcome this result, this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the crime associated with the Covid-19 vaccine," Interpol secretary general Jürgen Stock said.

Fake vaccine distribution rings spread across many parts of the world and develop advertisements on the internet where anyone who is misled can buy a fake vaccine, while they are targeted according to Interpol, even in nursing homes where they sell them by hand. "Any vaccine advertised on websites or on the dark web will not be legal, will not have been tested and can be dangerous," Stock said.

It is worth noting that Interpol had warned since last December about the possible increase in criminal organisations dealing with vaccines by stealing shipments and even attacking warehouses in order to procure and sell them on the black market.
