A TOTAL OF 310,000 PEOPLE WILL RECEIVE AT LEAST THE FIRST DOSE OF THE VACCINE BY THE BEGINNING OF MAY

The increase of the vaccination coverage of the population until the 1st week of May is expected to be significant, according to the updated schedule given. Despite the reduction in AstraZeneca vaccine shipment, which affects all EU countries this week and next, Cyprus is expected to receive an additional 270,000 doses of the four licensed vaccines by the end of April, raising the total number of doses received to 440,000.

In particular, and based on the quantities that are expected to be sent, it is estimated that an additional 195,000 people will be vaccinated with at least the first dose of the vaccine by the first week of May. According to the National Vaccination Plan against COVID-19, in the above period at least the first dose of the vaccine will be given to people who belong to the vulnerable groups, but also to the general population, covering the age group of 45 years and over.

The Ministry of Health remains committed to the implementation of the National Vaccination Plan against COVID-19, according to the availability of vaccines. Recognizing that vaccination is the key weapon in tackling the health crisis, all citizens are called upon to continue to support the national effort, choosing vaccination as the means that will save our lives. Joining everyone in this tremendous effort will protect us from the virus and allow us to return safely to our normalcy. (MKY)
