439 NEW CASES AND TWO DEATHS, TUESDAY

Two deaths of our fellow citizens and 439 new positive cases of coronavirus, the Ministry of Health announced today.

Specifically, the Ministry announces that today, 30 March 2021:

  • Two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 256.
  • 177 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 46 are in serious condition.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Woman, aged 67, with underlying diseases, without a history of vaccination, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of  Nicosia General Hospital.
  • Male, aged 66, with underlying diseases, no history of vaccination, who ended up in Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 256, of which:

  • 169 men (66%), and
  • 87 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 177 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE OKYP hospitals, 46 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 46 patients critical, 21 are intubated, four are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 21 are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 42,257 laboratory diagnoses carried out today, 3,666 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 38,591 using the antigen rapid test, 439 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 135 cases from 740 samples taken through the process of tracing close contacts (primary contacts) of cases.
  • 1 case of 775 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 60 cases from 1,718 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 12 cases from 373 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 2 cases from 59 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through Public Health Clinics.
  • 27 cases from 1,120 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 202 cases from 37,471 samples examined using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 1 sample taken as part of a re-examination carried out on the 7th day following the arrival of persons who have returned from the United Kingdom and are under mandatory restriction in hotels in the Republic.

In detail, the rapid antigen detection tests were carried out today as follows:
