431 NEW CASES, ONE DEATH - THURSDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, March 11, 2021 a person has died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 236.

It is also noted that:

  • 185 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 36 of whom are in serious condition.
  • A total of 43,177 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 431 (positivity rate: 1%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 38,496.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

One person who has died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concerns:

  • Woman, aged 81, with underlying diseases, whoended up today at Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 236, of which:

  • 156 men (66%), and
  • 80 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 185 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE HOSPITALS, 36 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 36 patients critical, 16 are intubated, four are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 16 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 43,177 laboratory diagnoses carried out today, 2,940 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 40,237 using the antigen rapid test, 431 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 128 cases from 814 samples taken through the process of tracing close contacts (primary contacts) cases.
  • 2 cases from 364 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 64 cases from 1,419 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 8 cases from 222 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case of 121 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through public health clinics.
  • 16 cases from 391 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories.
  • 212 cases from 39,846 samples tested using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.

212 people tested positive today in covid-19 in Cyprus, through 39,846 samples, tested using the antigen rapid test, through the Ministry of Health programme.
