420 NEW CASES - TUESDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, March 9, 2021:

  • No deaths of patients with a final cause of death on COVID-19 were recorded today, so the total number of deaths remains 233.
  • 154 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 29 of whom are in serious condition.
  • A total of 34,799 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 420 (positivity rate: 1.21%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 37,650.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded today. Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 remains 233, of which:

  • 156 men (67%), and
  • 77 women (33%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 154 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE OKYP hospitals, 29 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 29 patients critical, 15 are intubated, four are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 10 are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 34,799 laboratory diagnoses currently carried out, 3,312 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 31,487 using the antigen rapid test, 420 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 95 cases from 600 samples taken through the process of tracing close contacts (primary contacts) cases.
  • 5 cases of 400 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 82 cases from 1,697 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 16 cases from 325 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 10 cases from 394 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories.
  • 212 cases from 31,093 samples tested using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 290 samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.

420 new cases of COVID-19 disease announced today by the Ministry of Health, while no new death was announced.

At the same time, rapid testing is continuing in all provinces.
