415 NEW CASES AND TWO DEATHS - Wednesday

They again exceeded 400 positive cases of coronavirus, while after several days two people died.


According to the Ministry's announcement:

  • Two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 235.
  • 165 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 30 are in serious condition.
  • A total of 34,079 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 415 (positivity rate: 1.22%) new cases of COVID-19 have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 38,065.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Woman, aged 58, with underlying diseases, who ended up yesterday in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • Woman, aged 76, with underlying diseases, who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 235, of which:

  • 156 men (66%), and
  • 79 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 165 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE O.C.P.S. hospitals, 30 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 30 patients critical, 15 are intubated, three are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 12 are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:


Of the 34,079 laboratory diagnoses currently carried out, 2,683 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 31,396using the antigen rapid test, 415 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:


  • 96 cases from 639 samples taken through the process of tracing close contacts (primary contacts) cases.
  • 32 cases out of 1,198 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 13 cases from 341 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 9 cases from 222 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories.
  • 265 cases from 31,174 samples examined using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 226 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 279 samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
