382 NEW CASES - WEDNESDAY

Overall, 382 (positivity rate: 0.99%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 40,726.

The Ministry of Health announces that today, 17 March 2021, no deaths of patients with a final cause of death of COVID-19 were recorded, and therefore the total number of deaths remains 241.

218 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 44 of whom are in serious condition.

A total of 38,685 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

The total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 remains 241, of which 160 are men (66%), and 81 women (34%).

Hospitalized:

A total of 218 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE HOSPITALS, 44 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 44 patients critical, 15 are intubated, 10 are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 19 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 38,685 laboratory diagnoses currently carried out, 3,517 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 35,168 using the antigen rapid test, 382 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 103 cases from 727 samples taken through the process of tracing close contacts (primary contacts) cases.
  • 2 cases from 219 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 59 cases from 1,937 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 7 cases from 358 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 8 cases from 766 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 203 cases from 34,402 samples examined using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 73 samples taken as part of a re-examination carried out on the 7th day following the arrival of persons who have returned from the United Kingdom and are under mandatory restriction in hotels in the Republic.
  • 203 samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
