293 NEW CASES AND TWO DEATHS, WEDNESDAY

Two deaths and 293 cases of coronavirus announced today 24/03/2021 the Ministry of Health.

According to a statement, two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 248. 211 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 47 of whom are in serious condition. A total of 37,486 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test. Meanwhile, 293 (positivity rate: 0.78%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 43,286.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Male, aged 75, with underlying diseases, no vaccination history, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • Man, aged 70, with underlying diseases, no vaccination history, who ended up in Famagusta General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 248, of which:

  • 165 men (67%), and
  • 83 women (33%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 211 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYY hospitals, 47 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 47 patients critical, 21 are intubated, six are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 20 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 37,486 laboratory diagnoses carried out today, 2,644 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 34,842 using the antigen rapid test, 293 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 96 cases from 737 samples taken through the process of tracing close contacts (primary contacts) cases.
  • 37 cases from 1,040 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 13 cases from 336 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 14 cases from 540 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 133 cases from 34,302 samples tested using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 292 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 74 samples taken as part of a re-examination carried out on the 7th day following the arrival of persons who have returned from the United Kingdom and are under mandatory restriction in hotels in the Republic.
  • 165 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
