USA - RAIN OF AIRCRAFT ENGINE DEBRIS FELL IN DENVER SUBURB

 Filenews 21 February 2021

Rain of debris fell yesterday Saturday in a Denver suburb from the right-hand engine of a United Airlines passenger plane, which was forced to return when it encountered a mechanical failure —the engine continued to push, albeit almost broken and on fire - according to authorities.

In photographs posted on social networking sites, mainly by broomfield police (@BroomfieldPD), a visible part of the engine casing, circular in shape, with a diameter greater than an entrance door, is planted in the courtyard of a house in this suburb of Denver, in the state of Colorado (central USA).

The aircraft, which was flying to Honolulu (Hawaii), "returned to Denver International Airport, where it landed safely after suffering damage to its right engine shortly after takeoff," the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) explained via Twitter (@FAANews).

Kirby Clements, the owner of the yard where the imposing piece of the engine spout fell, recounted to the CNN television network a "bit of a heartbreaking" experience.

"This landed on the roof of my car before it fell to the side," he said before adding that another large chunk of the aircraft's engine opened a hole with a diameter of more than 1.5m on his neighbour's roof.

The FAA said it is "aware of debris that fell along the path followed by the aircraft" of the UA, a Boeing 777-200.

United Airlines confirmed via Twitter (@United) that there were no passenger injuries.

According to Broomfield Police, miraculously no injuries to the ground have been reported so far.
