THEOLOGIANS CALL FOR WITHDRAWAL OF EUROVISION SONG ENTRY BY CYPRUS

 Filenews 26 February 2021

The immediate withdrawal of the song, which is to represent Cyprus, in this year's 65th Eurovision Song Contest, is requested by the Association of Theologians OELMEK, which expresses feelings of disappointment, sadness and intense reflection.

In a statement, the Association of Theologians OELMEK expresses its "disgrace" in relation to the lyrics of this song, which, it says, "praises Satan, dedicates his life to him and loves him".

The Association of Theologians OELMEK says that some serious questions are being asked de facto to the management of the RIK, such as why a song was chosen that so brutally provokes the religious feelings of the faithful people, at which points this song promotes and spreads in the European area the culture of our country and why our small and semi-resident Cyprus, an island visited by thousands every year , admiring among other things his religious monuments, to be represented by a song that essentially promotes Satanism.

It also wonders by what criteria the competent committee in Public Broadcasting sets, in order to choose such low quality and ethical songs, representing us abroad and why it is so difficult to select artists from our island with ethics and quality, that they can promote our culture and musical tradition in international music competitions.

"If requested," he adds, "it is simply the first, it is better not to participate at all if we are represented with every diabolical subculture."
