TAXI DRIVERS STOP WORK ON 1 MARCH

 Filenews 27 February 2021

The taxi drivers' coordination has decided on a work stop on 1 March, starting at 07:00.

According to a communication from the Steering Committee, the working attitude concerns the inclusion of the sector in the sponsorship plans of the Ministry of Health, Tourism and the Ministry of Transport, the inclusion of the industry in the sponsorship plans to restart tourism. They also call for an immediate reduction in fuel prices and the immediate resolution of problems with the operation of taxis at airports.

The Steering Committee considers "insulting and disparaging the way in which today's call for a referendum on the way taxis operate at Larnaca airport was conducted by officials, without the elementary democratic measures due to vote, with admittedly blackmailing and misleading suggestions without resulting in the decent operation of taxis that all parties involved in the Organisations seek".

It also calls on the stakeholders to give their written positions on the above requests, which have been demanded and denounced on a number of times in the recent past by all The Provincial Organisations. A reasonable and main argument of the labour stop decision is that the Professional Organisations consider it unreasonable not to be listened to for so long with the same demands which have already dealt a major blow with the ultimate direction of the extermination of the sector, it is added.

Finally, it informs that areas of last resort may be excluded during the event, in coordination by the Press Office with security teams in the Provinces.

VIPS taxis in Nicosia will not participate in the strike.
