The staggered return to schools seems to be pre-judged by epidemiologists for the students of Gymnasiums and Lyceums/Technical Schools (A' and B' class), in the next phase of relaxation of the restrictive measures. On this basis, dates are also on the table but have not been given by epidemiologists. The thoughts reportedly relate to 1 March and 15 March for the gradual return of pupils, but this will be decided by the end of February, when the situation and the wider epidemiological picture will be assessed.
However, circles of the Ministry of Education told "F" that its position and goal is to return all students to their schools on the same day. This is because there does not seem to be a problem with the return of some 34,000 students (Gymnasiums and two classes of Lyceums/Technical Schools), while several thousand more students returned on 8 February. However, in addition to the views available, final decisions will be taken when the time comes and according to the recommendations of the epidemiologists.
Moreover, the Ministry of Education has made it clear that the Cyprus Examinations will be held in June. The reason for this development is not the pandemic but the parliamentary elections to be held on 30 May.
