6/2/21 - Period 30/1 - 6/2/2021 - POLICE ACTIONS TO COMBAT ALL FORMS OF CRIME
In the last week (Saturday 30/01/2021 – Saturday 06/02/2021), the Cyprus Police, thanks to the correct
and methodical action of its members, has achieved a number of successes in a wide range of its
mission: from fighting with drug dealers and fighting serious and organised crime, to dismantling
criminal groups and arresting persons acting against unsuspecting citizens, committing, robbing, burglaries
and thefts.
Organised crime, drugs and other cases In particular, last Saturday, as part of a coordinated operation
by members of the TD Headquarters, of MMAD, YKAN Headquarters and Larnaca, THE LARNACA,
as well as the Police Dogs Branch, for the prevention and fight against organised crime, a firearm,
number of cartridges, half a kilogram of explosive, two electric detonators, 2.5 kg of dry cannabis plant
material and various items related to the cultivation and packaging of drugs, seized as evidence, were
found in Larnaca and Nicosia.
Also last Wednesday, a 35-year-old man was arrested on the basis of a court order to facilitate
investigations into an investigation into the detection of a large quantity of cannabis and Bengali
(35 kg of cannabis and more than 300 kg of Bengali and explosives) on 17/12/2020, following a
coordinated operation by YKAN. We recall that four other persons had been arrested in this case.
As regards the action of YKAN, it was also identified last Thursday, following an evaluation of information
by members of the Service and seized a quantity of cannabis, weighing 2 kg and 350 g, in Nicosia, as
well as the sum of €2,730. Two persons were arrested and detained to facilitate investigations into the case.
In addition, Police arrested last Thursday in Paphos and detained, a 36-year-old man for facilitating
interrogations, in connection with four cases under investigation, including car arson and illegal drug
possession cases The police proceeded to arrest a 43-year-old man and a 27-year-old man for facilitating
investigations in connection with a robbery and assault and actual bodily harm case committed at noon on
30 January 2021 against a 34-year-old man, who, while in the shop he maintains in Larnaca, was
attacked by three persons, who, after beating him, stole from his jacket a sum of money.
Also last Thursday, members of the Police, assessing information that a suspicious person is in a specific
area in Nicosia, went to the spot where they located and stopped for a check on a 25-year-old. In his
possession, a kitchen knife was found, resulting in his arrest.
Car thefts and thefts
Last Monday, a 26-year-old man was spotted by members of OPE Limassol in the Agios Athanasios area of
Limassol driving a car, which had been declared a stolen car in Larnaca.
Immediately, after his vehicle was followed, he was stopped and it was found that he was a person wanted
for 27 cases of car theft and damage and 2 cases of car theft, offences committed in Nicosia province and
arrested on the basis of a court order pending against him. Two other persons were subsequently arrested
in the same cases.
In addition, in the past few days, a 26-year-old man has been arrested in Nicosia and detained for
facilitating investigations into investigated cases involving six vehicle thefts in the provinces of Nicosia,
Limassol and Larnaca,
Burglaries and thefts
Two were arrested last Tuesday - a 21-year-old man, wanted by the Police, was detained for facilitating
investigations into alleged burglary and theft cases, as well as a 19-year-old, for aggravated offences.
The vehicle in which they were on board was spotted by an OPE Limassol patrol moving suspiciously on a
Limassol road and, after being followed, was stopped after they refusal to stop for a police check. It was
found that the vehicle in question was stolen and several burglary tools and property appearing to
be stolen were seized. A registration plate belonging to another vehicle, which had been reported as
stolen, was also found inside the vehicle. Questioning, the 21-year-old allegedly pointed to locations in
Limassol, where two other stolen vehicles were located. They are alleged to be related to six cases of
burglaries and thefts from homes and two vehicle thefts.
Two other persons were also arrested in Limassol for two vehicle theft cases, as well as two
other persons for facilitating investigations into investigations into car theft cases. In addition, four
persons were arrested by members of the Police for investigating cases of burglaries and thefts,
committed in recent times in the provinces of Famagusta, Paphos and Limassol (Today's Police Bulletin
No. 2 is relevant). The Police Force gives a daily fight against crime with the main objective of preventing,
combating and detecting it, but also identifying, arresting and bringing the offenders to justice.
