OVER 400,000 RAPID TESTS CARRIED OUT IN FIRST TWO WEEKS OF FEBRUARY

402,000 rapid antigen detection tests were carried out in the period from 1 to 14 February, as part of the general population and employee control programmes carried out by the Ministry of Health.

The main purpose of the programmes is the continuous and real-time recording of the epidemiological situation of the country and early intervention in the event of a burden on epidemiological indicators. In particular, the weekly employee control programme aims to maintain safety in the workplace and to ensure the smooth continuation of the operation of both private enterprises and departments in the public and wider public sectors,

It is recalled that, according to the Decree of 12 February, employers in enterprises, as well as Heads in departments/services of the public and wider public sector, have a responsibility to coordinate as employees undergo rapid testing, in order to ensure the mandatory weekly examination with rapid test of staff antigen as follows:

  • Enterprises/services employing up to 3 persons , control should be carried out on all employees.
  • Enterprises/services employing between 4 and 10 persons should be checked on at least 4 employees.
  • Enterprises/services employing more than 11 persons should be checked on at least 4 persons or 20% of employees, whichever is greater in number .

In addition, self-employed persons, such as electricians, plumbers, etc., who must present a negative certificate if requested by their customers, must also undergo a weekly examination through the programme.

Finally, those who work as domestic helpers and/or are responsible for the home care of elderly or disabled persons or persons who cannot self-serve are also required to carry out a rapid antigen test.

The result of the rapid test is valid for a period of 7 days.
