The contracts for the start of the project "supply, installation and operation of smart city infrastructure and systems" were signed by the Municipality of Nicosia and Logicom Solutions and Cyta.
With the signing, the municipality is proceeding with the implementation of the Integrated Smart City Strategy 2018-2028, which has been in place for the last five years. According to an announcement, the duration of the project, which will be co-financed by the European Structural and Investment Funds, the Republic of Cyprus and the Municipality of Nicosia, is expected to be 36 months but the first smart city infrastructure and systems will be available in 2021.
The project is divided into two sections to be implemented by two large groups of companies, led by Logicom Solutions and Cyta.
Section 1 concerns the Optical Fiber Network Infrastructures and the installation and operation of the Wireless Access Networks and IoT Sensor Networks (Internet of Things) for which provisions have been made in all new infrastructures of the Municipality of Nicosia.
The Municipality of Nicosia states that it has already installed the necessary infrastructure/pipes for the installation of a fiber optic network (NFN) in all recently completed or implemented projects (Commercial triangle, Rigainis, Kyriakou Matsi, Kallipolis, Freedom Square, etc.), while noting that the implementation will be done by Logicom Solutions, Cisco, IoTech Systems and Cyta.
Regarding Section 2 which is the operation of smart city infrastructures and systems and which will be implemented in individual topics by NewCytech companies, Yodiwo, and Ernst&Young, concerns Nicosia Wireless Network (NWN), info-points and digital signage for highlighting and enhancing the tourist and cultural activities of the capital and installing smart lighting. , since all projects include LED lighting, with a monitoring system and relative brightness adjustment depending on traffic, which will improve road safety.
It also concerns an environmental sensors system for recording and monitoring dust in the atmosphere, temperature and air quality, a smart waste monitoring system, the creation of an integrated sustainable mobility system, the procurement and installation of infrastructures and systems for monitoring sustainable mobility parameters and smart urban mobility and the creation of applications to predict traffic in the city. , intelligent management and information for finding smart parking spaces.
In a greeting at the signing of the contracts, Nicosia Mayor Konstantinos Giorgis analysed the benefits of the project, noting that the capital is the first city to offer better services to its citizens through its digital transformation."
For her part, Cyta President Rena Rouvita Panou said that the organization's active participation in the digital transformation of the Cypriot capital "is a fundamental milestone in Cyta's historical journey".
The CEO of Logicom Solutions, Chrysostomos Kritiotis, said that "Logicom Solutions, together with CISCO "are here to lay a solid foundation on which the smart city will be built, making Nicosia a more modern and efficient city".
