A Memorandum of Cooperation was
signed today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, between the Ministry and the
Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING) and the Cyprus School of
Molecular Medicine (CSMM).
The Memorandum was signed by
the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, and the Chief
Executive Medical Director Prof. Leonidas Phylactou, on behalf of CING/CSMM,
at a special ceremony.
The purpose of the Memorandum,
which entered into force immediately for an initial period of two years, is
to establish cooperation between the Parties for the implementation of a wide
range of targeted actions, such as, inter alia, the granting of scholarships,
sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to students from countries in
the region to enroll in postgraduate programs of CSMM in the fields of
Molecular Medicine, Medical Genetics and Neuroscience, the cooperation for
the development and implementation of research programs of CING/CSMM, and,
the establishment and strengthening of the scientific cooperation of CING and
CSMM with countries in the Middle East.
As Minister Christodoulides
stated during the signing ceremony, this Memorandum falls within the
framework of the Ministry's development cooperation with third countries, and
is expected to contribute, more specifically, to the further enhancement of
the bilateral relations and ties of the Republic of Cyprus with countries of
the broader Middle East region.
