The Ministry of Health recalls that given the current epidemiological situation and on the recommendation of the Advisory Scientific Committee on Coronavirus, the positive SARS-CoV-2 antigen tests carried out by the mobile units of the Ministry of Health are considered to be true positive and do not need to be confirmed by the molecular method (RT-PCR), due to the high positive predictive value of the Antigen Rapid Test.
Similarly, the need for non-verification of positive antigenic test results extends with effect from today 5 February 2021 to the positive results of private clinical laboratories included in the list below. It is noted that these laboratories use SARS-CoV-2 antigen tests that meet specific specifications set by the Ministry of Health and are consistent with the recommendations of ECDC and WHO.

Persons with a positive result of a rapid laboratory examination of an antigen that has not been carried out by mobile units of the Ministry of Health or by a Private Clinical Laboratory included in the above list should contact their Personal Physician informing him in order to proceed to a referral for molecular examination through the Public Health Clinics.
In any case, it is stressed that citizens with positive antigen tests should be immediately isolated and follow self-isolation guidelines for confirmed cases of COVID-19. Further instructions will be given by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit following notification to it of the positive result by the clinical laboratory.
In cases of people with symptomatology suspected of coronavirus infection who have a negative SARS-CoV-2 antigen test, it is recommended that they contact their Personal Physician to evaluate and arrange further investigation by the molecular method (RT-PCR).
In cases of people without symptoms and with a negative SARS-CoV-2 antigen test, it is stressed that they are not exempt from the risk of DEVELOPING COVID-19 infection and should continue the strict application of individual protection measures and protocols.
It should be noted that by The Infectious Diseases Decree No. 2, dated 8 January 2021, a maximum price has been set for a rapid antigen detection test for COVID-19 coronavirus of €20.
