KOKKINOS - 5G WILL OPEN UP NEW PROSPECTS FOR CYPRUS

5G technology has come to stay and will certainly open up new prospects for Cyprus, said Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Kyriakos Kokkinos, speaking at FMW's online seminar on the implementation of 5G in Cyprus.

According to a press release from the organizer, Mr. Kokkinos said the new technology will bring many benefits to important sectors of our economy, while accelerating the digital transformation of our economy and society.

He added that 5G will open up new professions for our young people, who will have to integrate high technology, cybersecurity, information technology and mathematics into their professional orientation.

For his part, Commissioner for Communications - Digital Security Authority George Michaelides said that his Office monitors developments in new technology and takes all measures for its smooth implementation. He also pointed out that his Service is in contact with the communication companies to reduce the cost of the internet in Cyprus.

As stated in the communication, on behalf of CYTA, Chrysis Finiotis presented the benefits that CYTA customers will have from 5G and spoke of a new era in the field of technology. He also spoke of CYTA's readiness to successfully implement the new technology, leading Cyprus to the new digital age.

Finally, on behalf of the SYTEA,  Anastasiades raised the issue of cybersecurity and the legal implications of the implementation of 5G, stressing that all providers must work for its safe success.
