ELDERLY IN PAPHOS COMPLAIN RE VACCINE PORTAL ACCESS

Filenews 13 February 2021 - by Dora Christodoulou

"Strangely fast" characterizes the opening and closing of the vaccination portal with regard to Paphos Hospital, as found by relatives of elderly people who have been trying in recent days to make an appointment for vaccination.

Three different cases were reported only yesterday to 'F' by relatives of people who have the possibility of being vaccinated on the basis of age data. In all three cases, the complainants claim that at exactly 9.00am they were ready and entered the electronic portal for the appointment of their family, but they were surprised to see that only two minutes later the gate announced that the appointments for Paphos Hospital had been completed and now in Paphos province there was only possibility of an appointment at the local hospital of Polis Chrysochous on the 24th of this month.

Two of the cases concerned previous days for people over the age of 85 and Tuesday's release, and one concerned a person in the age group of 75 and over, with the dates released yesterday. The elderly people's relatives described it as at least strange, if not suspicious in their expression, to complete the procedure within two or three minutes.

"It was not announced at least by the Ministry of Health that in Paphos the available vaccines are so few that they run out in just a few minutes," they argued. "Therefore, it can reasonably be thought that something strange is happening at Paphos Hospital with the management of appointments or that for the purpose of pushing people to Polis Chrysochous to have AstraZeneca vaccines that are available there and not the most popular Pfizer announced to be available for vaccination in Paphos."

Some of the elderly people's relatives told 'F' yesterday that they had tried successively to make an appointment in the following days from the first moment the gate was opened for this purpose, in order to ensure that there was no technical or procedural problem preventing them from doing so the first time. In these cases too, they argued, the message was again that there is no possibility of arranging an appointment at Paphos Hospital, although in any case the entrance to the website was done in seconds time with its opening.
