CAUTION - SCAM VIA APPS ON MOBILE PHONES

12/2/21

Particular attention is recommended to the public by the Police, to protect against fraudulent updates / notifications of various applications on mobile phones, which may aim to extract money through registration to unwanted subscription services.

According to some reports made to the Police, in recent times, citizens have received notifications on their mobile phone about an alleged upgrade of a communication application. Users are then asked to place their phone number for the upgrade and instead register their subscription services, which they charge by sending SMS messages.

The Police recommend special attention to the public regarding such updates that it receives on their mobile phone as they are malicious acts.

If citizens have already unknowingly registered with subscription services, they are encouraged to contact their provider to check the billing of their phone bill and where money is found to be posted, to make a complaint to the Police Station in the area where they live.
