113 NEW CASES, THREE DEATHS - WEDNESDAY

Three people died from COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 217, the Department of Health announced Wednesday.

At the same time, the competent Ministry announced 113 new cases of COVID-19 disease (positivity rate: 0.46%), identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 32,072.

Meanwhile, 95 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, including 36 in serious condition.

As the competent Ministry notes, a total of 24,780 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The three people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Male, aged 77, with underlying diseases, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • Male, aged 61, with underlying diseases, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • Man, aged 86, with underlying disease, who ended up in Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 217, of which:

  • 148 men (68%), and
  • 69 women (32%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 95 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE HOSPITALS, 36 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 36 patients critical, 17 are intubated, four are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 15 in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 24,780 laboratory diagnoses currently carried out, 1,865 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 22,915 using the antigen rapid test, 113 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 27 cases from 166 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 1 case of 95 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 8 cases from 927 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 12 cases from 329 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 3 cases from 109 samples taken under the migrant structure control programme.
  • 6 cases from 378 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories.
  • 56 cases from 22,537 samples examined using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 239 samples taken as part of the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
