The prospect of the creation of a Municipality of East Paphos instead of the integration of Geroskipou in the Municipality of Paphos, is gaining more and more ground in the local communities of the region, while it is now also vindicated by scientific independent studies, such as Ernst & Young's.
This is appreciated by the member of the Committee for the Struggle of Municipalities of Geroskipou, Andreas Sikkis, who also points out that it is becoming increasingly apparent both the advantage of representing all the current local authorities in such a new Municipality, and the avoidance of the financial weights that will be loaded by their accession to a Municipality such as Paphos, which is not one of the most financially robust , compared to municipalities such as Geroskipou or Pegia.
"Our position that we expressed from the beginning", he stressed, "that it would be more rational to happen towards the west expansion of the Municipality of Paphos and to the east expansion of the Municipality of Geroskipou, is now universally accepted by all the community authorities and societies of our wider region. We believe that Paphos could integrate as a Municipality the communities that are united with it, such as Chloraka or Emba, possibly also Kissonerga, while for its part the Municipality of Geroskipou would be better to integrate the eastern communities, such as Agia Marinauda, Konia or Achleia".
This will create even more powerful local authorities economically, while contributing to the goal of reducing local authorities, concluded Andreas Sikkis.
