Fires are expected to ignite a proposal for a Law of the MEMBER of the EDEC Kostis Efstathiou, since hundreds or even thousands of owners of "troubled" vehicles will either be forced to restore them to their factory condition, face their seizure, even face a prison sentence of up to two years or even a fine of €6,000. The modifications to be restored concern either machinery or vehicle exhausts. As is well known, many owners of either cars and motorcycles have modified either the horsepower or the exhausts of their vehicles, which, among other things, has also increased the noise emitted. In fact, residents in various areas occasionally complain.
On the basis of Mr. Efstathiou's proposal, "the Certificate of Fitness and the Vehicle Registration License are suspended and this is prohibited to be driven until it returns to the state in which it was originally before the conversion or modification of the machine or the removal of the catalytic converter depending on the case and to the mechanical condition imposed by the Law and Regulations and to be presented and successfully tested by the Curator". The "experimented" vehicle will be driven to a special place and if its owner receives it for the purpose of repairing it but does not pay the transport costs, then it will be sold at auction.
The same sentence provides that 'it shall be prohibited to drive a motor vehicle which has undergone a change or conversion in such a way that the gases emitted by the engine escape into the atmosphere without or before passing through a silencer or expansion chamber or other apparatus suitable and sufficient to reduce noise or volume, or from which the catalytic converter has been removed in the exhaust exhaust system or any component related to or connected to the catalytic converter; whose machinery has been converted so that it is noisy beyond the sound emission limits of its manufacturer or the maximum noise limit allowed'.
In accordance with the proposal, 'a member of the Police or Supervisor or another person authorised under law may, after carrying out an inspection or inspection of a motor vehicle, call the owner, driver or other person responsible for or controlling a motor vehicle whose engine has been converted to immobilise or arrange to immobilise and transport it. , within a reasonable period of time, in an appropriate space at the discretion of the Chief of Police in order to arrange its return to the state in which it was located before the conversion or modification of the machine or the removal of the catalytic converter depending on the case and to the mechanical condition imposed by the Law and regulations.'
The proposal for a Law also states that any person driving a motor vehicle in violation of the provisions of subsection (4) or the owner or owner of the motor vehicle is guilty of an offence and, if convicted, is subject to a prison sentence of not more than two (2) years or a fine not exceeding €6,000.
