THE RATE OF SPREAD OF THE VIRUS HAS BEEN SIGNIFICANTLY CONTROLLED

 Filenews 29 January 2021

The updated epidemiological data by 28 January were published by the Ministry of Health.

As the Ministry of Health points out, the large decrease in the cumulative impact (243.8/100,000 from 417/100,000 in the previous days) continues in all Provinces and Cyprus in cumulative incidence (243.8/100,000 from 417/100,000 in previous days), but remains greater than 150/100,000, an indicator used by the ECDC to assess countries.

There is a decrease in the daily number of hospital admissions (10 admissions/day in all hospitals from 14 admissions/day), while in ICU the burden continues, but without an increase in the number of nurses.

The positivity rate is declining in the general population, taking into account population antigenic tests and PCRs, and ranges between 1% and 3%while the rate of spread of the virus appears to have been significantly controlled without this meaning that transmissions do not continue.

As the Ministry of Health points out, despite the improvement in epidemiological indicators, with a view to the gradual lifting of restrictive measures from 1 February, great care is needed to avoid further flare-ups and worsening epidemiological data.
