Filenews 15 January 2021
Physical exercise/training is permitted in places where access is permitted under the current Ordinance. Specifically, the Ordinance, dated 15 January 2021, allows access only for physical exercise or individual sports purposes to parks, linear parks, beaches and nature trails of the Department of Forests.
Persons are entitled to go for physical exercise or individual sports only to parks, linear parks, beaches and nature trails of the Department of Forests, provided that they send to 8998 SMS with a choice of the number 6, observe the appropriate maximum duration of time (3 hours), and exercise together up to two people, with the exception of minor children.
With regard to parks, linear parks, nature trails and beaches, it is understood that the presence of people there is not allowed for any reason other than sport.
For example, provided that individual measures are observed against the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus:
- karate athlete is allowed to train on the beach or in a park alone or with his coach.
- it is permissible to exercise a person on a beach and park with or without equipment (e.g. TRX, step, fitball, weights, coke), as long as they do not exceed two persons, including the trainer.
- swimming in the sea is permitted only during the hours allowed to move, provided that it does not exceed two persons.
- is allowed to run on a nature trail of the Department of Forests, except that they do not exceed two persons, with the exception of minor children
It is stressed that in any place where individuals are to exercise, they are all obliged to avoid any socialization with other people who do not live permanently in the same house as them.
It is noted that with regard to the right of a person to exercise physically on the beaches, it is only allowed on the beaches of the Province where that person resides permanently (first residence). The exception is persons residing in a Province without easy access to the beach, i.e. nicosia province, who are entitled to go to beaches of the other Provinces for physical sports purposes, within a reasonable period of 3 hours.
It is understood that there is the right for persons travelling for sports purposes to be removed at any distance from their home provided that they send SMS with option number 6 on the number 8998 and that they will respect the maximum time of three (3) hours to which they are entitled. That is, if, for example, a cyclist starts from home at 8 a.m. he will have to send SMS at the same time and must by 11 a.m. at the latest be back home. It is understood that it is permissible for the cyclist/person who moves for the purpose of sports, if he wishes, when the 3 hours have passed to re-send SMS with option number 6 and to extend his sport for another 3 hours (total 6 hours). It is a prerequisite not to use more than two (2) SMS per day and always to comply with all other measures provided for by the current Decree.
