PURSUIT FROM PAPHOS - MESOGHI ROAD TO AGIOS NEOPHYTOS

Filenews 12 January 2021 - by Dora Christodoulou

Scenes from a film were played on Monday afternoon in Paphos, in an attempt by a police patrol to immobilize a driver of a vehicle he was driving in a way that was very dangerous to public safety.

Officers spotted an old jeep-type vehicle moving across the Mesogi, overcoming cars, entering oncoming traffic and causing fear to drivers and residents. Despite the use of the sirens of the police vehicle and the mega-microphone intended by the members of the patrol car to stop, the driver of the vehicle continued to drive as if nothing had happened and with the police vehicle afterwards, he ended up at the Monastery of Agios Neophytos in Tala.

There the dangerous vehicle was stopped and it was found that its driver was a 22-year-old man who was subsequently under the influence of drugs. The vehicle was also found to be registered as immobilized and therefore had neither insurance nor MOT, while the 22-year-old had not sent a message about his movement.

The driver was arrested and taken into custody, while cases of reckless and dangerous driving, in defiance of police instructions, violation of the Law on Infectious Cleansing, driving without insurance and under the influence of drugs are being examined.
