PAPHOS - ONGOING VEHICLE THEFTS INDICATE 'RING' ACTIVITY

Filenews 2 January 2021 - by Dora Christodoulou

Car thefts and vandalism in Paphos have continued continuously in recent days, vindicating the member of the E.G. of DIKO, Chrysanthos Savvides for his recent allegations of the existence of a ring aimed at the theft and sale of parts of old cars to foreigners.

Just 24 hours after the Savvides reports, Paphos Police have located three stolen vehicles and are also investigating the theft of another from the Muttallou district. These phenomena have increased in recent times and people feel terrified, Mr Savvides argued in his speech, arguing that the phenomenon is not unrelated to the increasing number of old vehicles driven by foreigners, which constantly create needs for spare parts.

"The old cars in Paphos, usually driven by foreigners, have created the need for 'cheap' spare parts, which on the one hand are not sufficient on the market, because of the many losses and on the other hand because genuine spare parts are clearly more expensive than stolen ones," he stresses. Therefore, the perpetrators of these actions easily find owners who are unable to spend a lot of money on repairing or maintaining their vehicles."

As a result of this situation, Chrysanthos Savvides concluded, rings have been created, which welcome the stolen cars and after they have been broken up, they sell their spare parts.
