Special attention is recommended to the public by the Police after receiving a number of complaints from citizens about online fraud related to Banking and Credit Institutions.
In particular, citizens are received misleading updates and messages, through which they are asked to confirm the access details and various account information they keep in Banks or Credit Institutions.
The confirmation of the data is done via an electronic link that connects citizens to fake websites similar to the websites of Banking/Credit Institutions.
As a result, the perpetrators of the fraud gain access to citizens' bank accounts via the internet (e-banking – i-banking) and take large sums of money from the accounts, transferring the money by remittances to banks abroad.
The public is asked to be very careful and not to disclose to any person their personal details and passwords of their bank accounts, since no Banking/Credit Institution will ever ask for their customers' passwords.
Citizens are also required to ensure that any messages they receive by phone or e-mail (e-mail) are true and have actually been sent by a Bank or Credit Institution where they maintain an account, before making any connection to a website of such institutions via an e-mail link mentioned in the relevant messages.
Furthermore, they should ensure that any website with which they have been linked is the authentic website of the Bank/Credit Institution with which they cooperate.
