Work begins next Monday on partial signalling of the Agia Phyla roundabout, with the installation of "smart traffic lights", says the Limassol Municipality, which looks forward to the traffic congestion observed.
In a statement, the Limassol Municipality informs that the project, expected to be completed on 25 May 2021, concerns maintenance, asphalting and partial signalling of the Agia Phylaxis roundabout, with the supply and installation of ELV LED light signalling equipment with MOVA traffic control system.
The maintenance of asphalt pavements will be carried out during the night from 21:00 to 6 a.m. the following day, while the rest of the work will be done during the day with normal hours or even weekends
The Limassol Municipality considers that "the installation of traffic lights at the Agia Phyla junction will alleviate the long-term problems related to delays, traffic congestion and long queues of vehicles observed at the roundabouts of the Limassol bypass during peak hours, which afflict passing drivers and especially those travelling at the Agia Phylaxis roundabout".
It is recalled that in statements at the press conference held a few months ago for the presentation of the system in the Municipality of Limassol, the Minister of Transport Giannis Karousos had mentioned that the simulation of the study for the installation of traffic lights, has shown that there can be an immediate improvement in this traffic junction, with a reduction of routes required up to 57%.
