From 15 February the Paphos Police Directorate is to set up and operate the special unit for investigating domestic violence cases, which already operates in the Limassol and Larnaca Directorates.
The spokesman of the Paphos Police Directorate, Michalis Ioannou, told "F" that the establishment of this new service is at the initiative of the Police Headquarters in cooperation with the Paphos Police Directorate, so that members of the force have the necessary expertise to deal with and investigate similar cases. To this end, Mr. Ioannou said, special training will be given to members of the Paphos Directorate who will staff the service on a permanent basis.
"The Step is expected to be operational by 15 February, will be subject to and housed in the Paphos TAF", he stressed. "Its members will not deal with other tasks and cases so that they can respond effectively to the very serious issues that now arise in domestic violence matters."
Our primary objective, Concluded Mr Ioannou, will be to protect victims of violence, but also minor children who may be involved so as not to be psychologically burdened with such psychoactive cases.
