Authorities are battling time in Britain to save batches of the coronavirus vaccine from a factory next to an overflowing river in Wales as Storm Kristoff forced thousands of people to flee their homes.
Special crews are trying to reinforce the mounds to protect the Wockhardt UK plant in the Wrexham industrial zone in north Wales, which is involved in producing the overpriced ones for the battle against the vaccine pandemic at Oxford University and AstraZeneca, lots of which are stored there.
Authorities have issued five severe flood warnings in Britain, following the overnight evacuation of hundreds of homes in the greater Manchester and Wales area due to flooding caused by the storm. Thousands of residents of these areas are already making an initial assessment of the damage to their homes and businesses, as an estimated 200 millimetres of rain fell overnight – more than in a month and the level of some rivers reached record levels.
