BEE HOTELS AND 100,000 BEEKEEPING PLANTS FROM PAFILIA

Filenews 24 January 2021 - by Dora Christodoulou

Its environmental sensitivity and culture is demonstrated by the company Pafilia Property Developers through the start of cooperation with the Cyprus Beekeepers Association. The cooperation is part of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility for the Environment programme and concerns the promotion of the beneficial services that bees offer to the ecosystem and to humans through the process of pollination, i.e. fertilization of the flower to become a fruit.

The participation of the bee in the ecological, environmental, economic and aesthetic formation of the planet's existence is unique and irreplaceable. This is because the bee is responsible for 70% of pollination, thus contributing to the conservation of biodiversity, the enrichment of native flora, the protection of soils from erosion, the improvement of habitats and more generally the preservation of the biological balance of our planet. At the same time, it contributes to the production of at least 2.5 billion tonnes of food per year, or 35% of world production, equivalent to EUR 153 billion of the world economy.

As the Executive Director of Pafilia, Dimitris Assiotis, stated, the implementation of innovative actions for sustainable development and environmental protection are a key axis of the company's philosophy as it recognizes its responsibility towards society. In fact, expressing its appreciation for the valuable work of the Cyprus Beekeepers' Association, he also indicated that Pafilia supports actions that shape environmentally responsible citizens and contribute to the protection of the natural environment and the enhancement of biodiversity.

Such initiatives contribute to efforts to cultivate and transmit environmental and ecological awareness to the wider society, and further strengthen the campaign to protect the bee and other pollinators, said the President of the Cyprus Beekeepers Association, Marios Konstantinou, praising Pafilia's environmental orientation.

The cooperation added by Mr. Konstantinou, comes to further strengthen the campaign to protect the bee and other pollinators run jointly by the Cyprus Beekeepers Association, the Movement of Professional Beekeepers, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Office of the Commissioner for the Environment and we are pleased that a private construction company is now participating in it.

Among other things, the cooperation includes carrying out informational and educational visits to primary schools and handing over to the children of the children's fairy tale "The Soussos Bee Explains", construction of 80 bee hotels and placing them in pieces of land belonging to the company, planting 100 thousand beekeeping plants and trees of local vegetation in an area of the Natura 2000 network. publication of information material on the importance of pollination, information and awareness of the company's human resources and its call for participation in relevant activities and strengthening the operation of the training and training programme for young beekeepers and the Cyprus Honey Festival.

Through cooperation, the principle of mild development in protected ecosystems, such as the resort of Minthis developed by Pafilia in Paphos, where only 3% of the land is buildable, as well as the principle of conservation and enhancement of biodiversity and, by extension, the soundness of ecosystems, is fully adopted.

In addition to this initiative, Pafilia Property Developers and its human resources are actively involved in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN's "Agenda 2030" for zero hunger, responsible consumption and production, protection of the environment, habitats and biodiversity and development of partnerships with other actors to achieve the objectives.
