The Ministry of Health announces that today, January 9, 2021:
- Six people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 147.
- 209 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 53 of whom are in serious condition.
- A total of 11,521 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 337 (positivity rate: 2.93%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 27,011.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The six people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:
- Woman, aged 66, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
- Woman, aged 83, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Nicosia General Hospital.
- Woman, aged 89, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Limassol General Hospital.
- Male, aged 88, with underlying diseases, who ended up in the Nicosia General Hospital after being transferred from the retirement home Aretis.
- Male, aged 72, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
- Male, aged 60, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 147, of which:
- 98 men (67%), and
- 49 women (33%).
The average age of the deceased from the disease is 80 years.
B. Hospitalized:
A total of 209 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE HOSPITALS, 53 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 53 patients critical, 31 are intubated, four are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 18 in an Increased Care Unit.
In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:
C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 11,521 laboratory diagnoses currently carried out, 3,554 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 7,967 using the antigen rapid test, 337 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:
106 cases from 607 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
3 cases from 585 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
43 cases from 1,674 samples taken through a private initiative.
26 cases from 364 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
1 case of 202 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through public health clinics.
158 cases from 7,967 samples examined using the antigen rapid test.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
122 samples taken as part of a re-examination carried out on the 7th day following the arrival of persons who have returned from the United Kingdom and are under mandatory restriction in hotels in the Republic.
