288 NEW CASES, AND FIVE DEATHS - Monday

The Ministry of Health announces that today, 11 January 2021, five people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 153.

Further, according to the update:

-      205 patients COVID-19 are hospitalized, of which 58 are in serious condition.

- A total of 12,842 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

-       288 (positivity rate: 2.24%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 27,638.

Here are today's results in detail:

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The five people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

-      Male, aged 77 years, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital.

-      Male, aged 89, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Limassol General Hospital.

-       Male, aged 70, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital.

-       A man, aged 89 years, with underlying diseases, who was treated at the Nicosia General Hospital after being transferred from the retirement home Aretis.

-       Woman, aged 82, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 153, of which:

- 103 men (67%), and

- 50 women (33%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 80 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 205 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE HOSPITALS, 58 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 12,842 laboratory diagnoses currently carried out, 3,892 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 8,950 using the antigen rapid test, 288 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 52 cases from 266 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 20 cases from 1,713 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 2 cases from 112 samples taken as part of a re-examination carried out on the 7th day following the arrival of persons who have returned from the United Kingdom and are under mandatory restriction in hotels in the Republic.
  • 27 cases from 1,177 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 16 cases from 388 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case of 236 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through public health clinics.
  • 170 cases from 8,950 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

Rapid Tests

For the 170 cases from 8,950 samples tested using the antigen rapid test, it is noted that the highest positivity rate was recorded today in Larnaca Province.
